Lunyangwa Girls' Primary

The girls from Standard 5 were very happy to show what they had been making in school. Some girls had knitted baby bootees and pencil bags.  Others had made small sample doormats using various cloth pieces and some had prepared small brooms.

Hands up for St. Mark's

At the moment new desks are being made for the Standard 7 class at Lunyangwa Girls' School. Everyone wishes to thank St. Mark's Primary (Irvine) for the funds which have enabled this to happen. All the desks will be complete within 2 weeks.  The desks will make such a difference to the learning environment for the girls.

Thank you St. Mark's

Today Standard 8 pupils in every school in Malawi are sitting the National exams.  While this is happening over the next 3 days, all the other pupils get a holiday from school while teachers are
required to invigilate at various schools.

Kande Beach

Last week we had a wonderful day out to Kande Beach which is a 2 hour drive from Mzuzu.  It is a popular place with the travellers in the overland trucks.  We could not believe our eyes when we approached the Kande Beach Resort.  Our view of the beautiful sandy beach and the shimmering Lake looked exactly like the photos in the travel magazines.

Penpals

Today the Standard 5 pupils finished writing letters for us to carry to their penpals at St. Mary's Primary in Largs.  We also took the pupils' photographs which will accompany the letters.  They are very excited and looking forward to hearing from their penpals by the end of June when we return to Mzuzu.

While we were taking the photos, some of the other children were very, very keen to be included; certainly not camera shy.

Welcome Back

The St. Peter’s group enjoyed their visit very much to Scotland and to St. Matthew’s Academy.  They arrived back in Mzuzu after a very long journey.  The group flew from Scotland to Amsterdam then having missed their connection flight to Nairobi, they flew back over the Channel to Heathrow, England before proceeding to Nairobi , then onto Malawi.  Despite the long journey, the students were delighted to have the opportunity to see Heathrow which they had heard about from friends; they were not disappointed.

Photo shoot before going home.

Tired, but happy to share a few stories of Scotland.
Everyone enjoyed their visit to Scotland and they have expressed deep gratitude to their host families and St. Matthew’s Academy for giving them a warm welcome and looking after them very, very well.  They spoke of the kindness of everyone they met in Scotland; now they have many, many Scottish friends which they hope they will met again in the future…perhaps here in Malawi?

The students marvelled at the facilities in St. Matthew’s Academy and they recalled the interesting visits they encountered at the primary schools, especially all the good questions from the pupils. The group enjoyed every activity on the programme especially experiencing Snow Zone and the football match.  A couple of the group managed to travel to Blantyre to see the David Livingstone Centre which they very much appreciated because he is viewed as a very important person in the history of Malawi.

This week each member of the group’s thoughts will published on St. Peter’s Blog so check out:- stpeterssecondarymzuzu.blogspot.com

Reunion to remember the wonderful times in Scotland.
